Artist - Greg Elam

Born and raised in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains of Southwest Virginia, a retired coal miner of 31 years, father of two and grandfather of three (soon to be four) married 36 years to a wonderful woman who allows much of my time to be spent in my woodworking shop, particularly in the cold winter mountain months.
The majority of my furniture is inspired by the Early American style, custom to the region in which I was raised. I believe in simple, functional furniture, meticulously crafted with quality materials. I take pride in the selection of the wood and the time-consuming placement and matching of grain and color. I work in a variety of rough sawn hardwoods, including oak, walnut and cherry. All the wood comes from local trees that I select and then bring to the saw mill where I personally plane the wood into the shapes I need for my pieces.
My artistry flourished when my children and wife would ask me to make pieces for them.  Being able to place my work in the homes of my children and grandchildren delighted and inspired me.  To know that my work would be passed from generation to generation and become heirlooms – that is what drives my passion for woodworking.
